A Bit on Marriage

wedding pictures circa 2012 by our talented photographer Anna with Birds&Coffee

So blogger was weird, and this didn't show up with the video of today, here it is!

Our church does video stories on individuals, couples, and families. For nearly eight years I've watched these videos, often times with tears in my eyes, of both joy and sorrow. Those videos are among my favorite things our church does. A month back, the college team (of which we serve weekly at) asked us to be interviewed for a video about us. US! I was both excited and nervous about it and totally unprepared. They gave us a list of question to discuss the night before, and to be blatantly honest, we argued our way through the first two questions and then had to give up for a few minutes to cool off. After space, and praying together we approached the questions again. They were hard. It's one thing to enjoy marriage together and feel like we're doing a "good job" at it, it's entirely different thing to explain your heart behind marriage. The words just didn't seem right sometimes. I swear the interview was even more disjointed than our conversation the evening before yet God found ways to interject our mess of words. Plus those video master/creatives sure did quite the creative work to put together one cohesive video of us. Click here to watch it.

A little side thought on marriage,
Nicole wrote about how she's been working to put her marriage first, directly in front of herself in order to be grateful and intentionally mindful of caring for her marriage daily instead of letting the waiting take over the current. SO MUCH YES! Starting last fall I allowed myself to become unhealthily obsessed with the amount of college debt we still had yet to pay off and what that meant for our future. Ie: waiting on x, y and z till it's paid off. It brought me to tears too many times and it broke me for a little while. Then one day, the stress, the focus, the obsessiveness of the "waiting until/for ___," came to a stop and God replaced it with serene peace. He brought to my eyes the current once again. The now. I want so badly to enjoy the now. It's part of my new years resolutions and it's been something Kevin and I have been focusing on more since last fall as a couple. We are here in Oklahoma right now for the purpose of magnifying God, in the lives of those that are near us now, here. In this season of now, we want to invest deeper into those lives and this marriage that God has given us. Marriage is a gift. Where we are and the people we call friends, it's all a gift. I want to cherish those gifts, not take them for granted and look toward the next new thing, After all, this life is worth nothing if are not making it about CHRIST! Those things we're waiting for, those are insignificant to the waiting of Jesus' return.

The Out Serve Challenge

Do NOTHING from selfish ambition or conceit. but in
humility count others more SIGNIFICANT than yourselves.
Philippians 2:3

Our small group has been reading through You and Me Forever by the Chans and my has it been eye opening and challenging! Every page I think, I'm going to have to go back and read that. Many thoughts have me searching my heart and mind.

The above verse was they key thought for our last group session. We were challenged to out serve our spouses. To think like Christ, going above and beyond. Loving in every way. It's been both fun to out serve Kevin and yet difficult. I've found just how often I want to just be selfish with my time and comfort. It's driven me to put myself further and further from importance. Thinking not only of Kevin but so many around me! Lord that I may exemplify your name by my actions!

Have you ever done an out serve challenge?

March Goals

Pictures from an unanticipated adventure- a high ropes course...a goal I never had decided to complete but am so very glad I did.

I tend to be afraid of goals to some extent. Goals too often become obligatory to-do lists that when I don't completely accomplish them, leave me feeling frustrated. But I'm working on making goals more reasonable for myself. With Kevin working most Saturdays, I make goals for Saturdays about the house work things I would like to complete. With every new week I'm getting better and better at this. So as I was reading a few of your goal posts for the month I thought, I can do this!

I love how many of you look back at the previous month. Giving yourself grace and celebration for what happened to the goals set a month before. I didn't really write February goals, but if I had, it would have been somewhere along the following lines:

*Set a date for our first dinner club Hooray! We not only set a date, we set two and held two dinner club nights. One at our home and one at our friend's home. We're doing the Bread and Wine dinner club.
*Prepare for our small group retreat Oh how sweet a trip this was. I tried HARD to not put too much expectations into it. It was such a good learning experience for me in that way. Overall, the whole trip was wonderful and I'm so glad we finally did it!
*Send in a small group story to the church It's been on my list for a long time and a week ago, I actually wrote it up and sent it in.
*Select girls and pick a date to do the IF Table Just last night over our dinner club with friends, I chatted about how hard this was because I didn't want someone to feel left out. I have such a better peace about this now and I'm really looking forward to actually crossing this one off next month.
*Purchase face moisturizer Back at Christmas time I got a sample from Sephora and really liked it. However, I never actually purchased it and completely meant to. Another month it was missed!
*Get back into my work out/eating regime Ever since Florida, I've been on/off and I'm over it. Unfortunately, it's taken me a bit longer but I'm back on track now! Just not quite enough to cross it off for last month.
* Dream/Research/Plan for our upcoming Hawaii trip on a "Hawaii themed" date night. The theme didn't go quite as well, we were hoping to find a fun seafood restaurant but turned up nothing exciting so we tried a new pizza place, and then hung out at Starbucks for a couple hours researching. We booked a few things and I'm more excited than ever!

*Purchase the face moisturizer cream!
*Stay on track with fitness/eating...2 months to Hawaii!
*Plan weekend for friends coming to visit us.
*Work with a friend on organizing the IF Table
*Stick to my home cleaning schedule.
*Organizer recipe binder: clean out, add new & edit
*Try at least two new recipes that I've pinned, dinners or desserts
*Get back on track with Kevin on doing our weekly prayer journal
