Finals Week

My final fall finals week ever is coming to a close. As an ID major I typically have few finals and thus use my time to check off things on my to-do list which I had intended "to do" throughout the semester. Of course this never happens and so what could be a rather peaceful week turns into a hectic got-to-get-everything-done-before-the-week-is-over time.

This semester one of goals was to sew and craft items for my younger sister's dorm room which she will moving into next fall. I can't believe she's that age already. This is a rather big undertaking,  I know but with our currently tight family budget I knew she wouldn't be able to get much for her dorm room and I was determined. What all did I decide to undertake? You know just a duvet cover, pillow cases, throw pillows, laptop pillow, cork board, and basically any extra things I could come up with. I am a new to sewing so naturally I thought this would be a cinch! Right? False, watch our fellow beginners! I'd suggest you start out small...don't try my way.

This is what I've accomplished thus far. I scavenged Goodwill (quite possibly my new favorite activity, that sweater in our engagement pics, totally came from Goodwill) for items she'd be able to use and I cam across a beat up cork board, task lamp and bright pink and orange pillow. The other items have been crafted by hand from samples from fabric reps and material from Hancock's :

Not bad, if I do say so myself. I'm rather proud of it. Learning the sewing machine has been quite a task though I've enjoyed learning it. I also wouldn't have been able to accomplish any of this without my two pro sewing queens roommates and their sewing machine, or my future mother in law (who basically is to thank for the duvet cover even being this far along already). Many thanks to them! And now it's onward to complete the remainder of these projects...pillows pillows pillows!
